Landlord insurance
Insurance for the homes you rent out
A homeowners policy stops covering a house once a tenant lives there. A landlord (dwelling) policy is built for it.

Homeowners vs landlord
Why a rental needs its own policy
| Situation | Homeowners policy | Landlord policy |
|---|---|---|
| A tenant lives in the home | Usually not covered | Covered |
| Rent you lose while repairs happen | Not covered | Loss of rent coverage |
| A tenant's guest is hurt on the property | Not covered for rentals | Landlord liability |
| The tenant's own belongings | Not covered | Not covered: the tenant needs renters insurance |
